The morning session was 120 questions and included general engineering topics such as mathematics, statistics, chemistry, ethics, engineering mechanics, material properties, fluid mechanics, electricity, magnetism and thermodynamics. The afternoon session was 60 questions and included chemical engineering topics such as chemistry, material/energy balances, heat transfer, mass transfer, chemical reaction engineering, process design, process control and safety. The FE exam is administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) and is a critical step in becoming a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in fire protection engineering.
